Adaptive Reuse in Clinton Hill: Renovation and Addition to Clinton Hill Brooklyn Public Library
Critic: Richard Sarrach
Class: Intermediate Design 2 (Arch_202)
Program: Renovation of an existing library and addition of film production and screening facility
Location: Clinton Hill, Brooklyn
What is the role of public libraries in contemporary New York? This project proposes adding a film production and screening facility to the existing Clinton Hill branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. A key goal was to preserve the current programs and facade, which contribute to the library's identity and utility in the neighborhood. The addition hovers above the existing library, with both old and new programs connected by a grand shared lobby. New features include three screening rooms, a small film production facility, and community spaces for gathering, reading, and relaxing.
